Blonde Hair Expertise by Colour Me Beautiful
Dimensional Blonde, Warm Blonde, Platinum Blonde...even if you were born with dark hair!
It doesn't matter that you weren't born with it. If you've always wanted to go blonde, or stay the blonde you once were, we can help. Whether you want a drastic change or just a little lift, the first step is deciding which shade. Going blonde requires an expert eye. Let us assess your skin tone, eye color and even your personality to find the blonde color that works best for you.
Transformative Blonding: From Dark to Light Hair
When a client has dark hair and wants to go blonde or platinum, there different ways we can approach this complex service. With some determination and patience, we can get you there. The best option will depend on the amount of lifting we need to do and the condition of the hair. We will then select the best suited lightening agents and application technique for the best result. Transformative blonding and extreme lifting appointments may involve multiple services in a single visit, so the sessions are longer than most.
Blonde Hair May Take More Than One Visit
Think of blonde hair as a journey rather than a destination. Big color changes may take several appointments in order to achieve the level of brightness, undertone, and dimension you want. Your hair and the bleach have limitations but we will make a plan. We always bleach responsibly, which means we're very careful about how we handle repeat blonding visits so that we don't over-process previously treated hair.
Dimensional Blonde Hair
Blonde hair doesn't have to be solid blonde with the same intensity all over. You can still lighten and brighten your look without going platinum! The spectrum of blonde hair shades is enormous!

Warm Blonde Hair Shades
We are definitely seeing a trend towards warmer, golden-toned blondes. For clients starting with light brown and bronde hair, we typically do a full head of fine highlights to create the all over blonde look. For a rooted, dimensional look, we can follow up with color at the roots and around hairline.
- Honey Blonde
- Teddy Bear Blonde, Honey Graham Blonde
- Sun-kissed Blonde
- Natural Golden Blonde
- California Blonde
Cool Blonde Hair Shades
At the opposite end of the spectrum, cool blonde is pale and icy without any golden tones. Compared to warm blonde's golden tones, cool blonde almost has a blue vibe. To knock down any golden tones, we apply a toner after lightening. Cool blondes can also use a purple shampoo at home.
- Platinum Blonde
- Icy Blonde
Neutral Shades of Blonde
These shades land somewhere in middle and they tend to flatter all skin tones. Neutral blondes don't contain golden tones or icy tones.
- Wheat Blonde
- Butter Blonde
- Beige Blonde
Blonde Color Correction, Blonde Hair Restoration
Are you the right shade of blonde? If you find that your blonde hair isn't working for you anymore, talk to us about what to do next. If your blonde hair looks brassy or if you've gone too light and need to tone it down a notch, let's talk about balancing and restoring your blond hair.
Maintaining Your Roots
With blonde hair comes responsibility. In order to maintain your look, you'll have to keep on top of your roots. Depending on your natural color and the amount of blonding we've done, we'll recommend the best intervals so you can plan your next visit. Plan to be in the salon every 6 weeks or so to touch up new growth.
Bleaching & Blonding Techniques
Whether you are looking to brighten your blonde locks or make the journey from dark hair color to platinum blonde, the blonde hair experts at Colour Me Beautiful are here to help. We have multiple options to create your perfect shade of blonde hair and can use a wide range of techniques to give you sensational results while protecting the health of your hair.
Foil Highlights
Depending on the client's desired look, it's possible to create a brighter or blonder look with foil highlights. We can create a lighter-all-over dimensional blonde with a full highlight service, placing foils all around the head, even underneath so the blonde color is consistent whether you wear your hair up or down. Foil highlights can even give hair a boost with just a partial foil, which would cover the top section of your hair around the crown.
Bleach & Tone for Blonde All Over
A bleach and tone service is what the pros refer to as on-scalp bleaching. We use this technique when a client wants all-over solid blonde hair right up to the roots. Provided the client's hair is healthy enough, we brush on bleach starting at the scalp. We work section by section, brushing on the lightener. We typically follow up with a toner to knock down any brassy tones. But this type of bleaching can be intense for some clients. We may recommend adding a bond builder like B3 to reinforce the hair during this type of service.
Platinum Card for Blonde All Over
Platinum Card is similar to a Bleach & Tone service, with the addition of foils. Like a giant foil highlight, we work section by section to apply bleach to every strand of hair, wrapping each section in foil to slow and extend the processing time. Thanks to the foils, we can get more lift and avoid the bleach from migrating onto the skin. We can better manage different areas of the head that require more lifting. A platinum card gives a uniform blonde color, even if the current hair color has a lot of variation.

What the best way to cover grey hair?
«That depends on the look and grey hair coverage you want, but the good news is that there are several ways to conceal grey hair. Heredity will determine when those grey hairs start to creep in. The hair color specialists at Colour Me Beautiful Salon in Albuquerque have helped women – and men – of all ages camouflage grey hair by adding all over hair color, by lightening hair, or by adding a combination of highlights and lowlights.
What’s the difference between balayage and foil highlights?
«Balayage is a hand-painted highlighting technique that creates a softer, more natural, sun-kissed look with less noticeable regrowth. Foil highlights offer more contrast and precision and are ideal if you want a brighter, more structured result.
What are balayage and ombré?
«Balayage is a technique where the color is painted on to create a natural, sun-kissed effect, typically focusing on the ends and mid-lengths of the hair. Ombré, on the other hand, is a style where the hair gradually transitions from a darker shade at the roots to a lighter shade creating a more dramatic look.
How often should I color my hair to maintain the look?
«It depends on the type of color service and how fast your hair grows. For root touch-ups or grey coverage, we recommend every 4–6 weeks. For balayage or root melt services, many clients can go 8–12 weeks between appointments with proper at-home care and occasional gloss treatments.
What is toner and why is it used after bleaching?
«Toner is a demi-permanent color used to adjust or enhance the tone of bleached or highlighted hair. It helps neutralize unwanted undertones like yellow or orange and creates the final shade—whether that’s icy blonde, silver, beige, or ash.
Will hair color damage my hair?
«When done professionally, hair color doesn’t have to damage your hair. At Colour Me Beautiful, we prioritize hair health and use high-quality, conditioning color lines and treatments like Milbon to restore moisture and strength. We also avoid harsh chemical services like Brazilian Blowouts for this reason.
Can I go from dark brown to blonde in one session?
«Going from dark to light is usually a multi-step process, especially if your hair has been previously colored. While it’s possible to make a dramatic change, we’ll typically lighten your hair gradually over multiple sessions to protect its integrity and prevent breakage.
Can I color my hair while pregnant?
«Many women safely color their hair during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester. We recommend consulting your doctor and choosing ammonia-free or low-odor products. We’re happy to discuss gentler color options if you're expecting.
Should I wash my hair before my color appointment?
«Avoid washing your hair the day of your appointment—natural oils help protect your scalp. Bring inspiration photos if you have a specific look in mind, and let your stylist know about any past chemical services or allergies.
Can I color my hair after giving birth? Should I let my stylist know I’m postpartum?
«Yes, it’s usually safe to color your hair postpartum, but hormones, stress, and changes in body chemistry after childbirth can sometimes affect how your hair reacts to color. For example, some women experience increased shedding, oiliness, or dryness, and these changes may impact how the color takes or how long it lasts.
We always recommend telling your stylist if you’ve recently given birth or are breastfeeding. This helps us tailor the service to your current hair condition and choose the most gentle, effective products—especially if you're concerned about sensitivity or are avoiding strong chemicals.
